Mainline Group Helps Tonga Rebuild

On 12th February 2018, destructive tropical cyclone ‘Gita’, smashed into Tonga’s capital, Nuku’alofa. With winds of up to 230kph and heavy flooding, infrastructure was severely damaged with the power network down leaving most of the country without power. The team at Tonga Power Ltd worked 17 hours a day as they installed temporary lines to reinstate power before the rebuilding could begin. Mainline Group has been privileged to work with Tonga Power in supplying six new specialist bucket trucks and crane trucks to assist with the rebuild of the entire network in Tonga including new poles and cabling.

The Tonga Power team are very happy with the advanced capabilities of this new equipment; the New Zealand favoured combination of Isuzu trucks and Palfinger cranes have increased the teams safety and productivity as they progress through the rebuild.

We are pleased to share some pictures after our recent visit in May 2019 of our equipment in action and glad to see a world class lines network being installed in Tonga to support the population with a much-improved system to protect against future storm events.
